3D SFX vol1 - Industrial Sound Events Page 4/4

Summary - Audio quality is very good. A lot of the samples do have ambient noise, though this is part of the sample itself, so adds to the ambient feel of the sounds, if you take this out the sounds would be rather too sterile. There are quite a number of samples that have a noticeable surround sound feel to them, whilst with two speakers your never going to get the effect of a full set of surround speakers, the sounds here do a very good job.

This isn't a true sample CD in the normal sense, more of a sound effects CD and this should be borne in mind by potential purchasers. There aren't a whole lot of samples, and many of the ones that are on offer are on the long side. There are 7 over a minute, and another 9 over 45 seconds.

From a musical standpoint, if your looking for a ready made sample library of industrial sounds then your going to have to do some work. Either looping snippets of sounds, or extracting parts to use. I would think that if your prepared to spend some time there are dozens of great percussive effects to be culled from here. Perhaps the only thing lacking are lots of powerful hit type sounds. But if your after grinds, scratches, whirr's, motors and the like you'll find plenty of source material here. Otherwise if your looking for an ambience for a lead or backing for a track then you might well find something here to use.

The real purpose of the CD though is going to be for those looking to use the sounds pretty much as they are. Be this in sound effects, soundtrack or multimedia work. The sort of place this would be ideal for is something like Disney's MGM studio's for one of their themes rides/displays. If your looking for the sorts of sounds offered by this CD then this is for you.

The CD certainly achieves what it sets out to, it's a little shy on the time front, and I'd have liked more "big" sounds, steam hammers, sledgehammers and that sort of thing, that I think would have widened its appeal. As would culling snippets of sounds for industrial percussionists to use. But if your looking for authentic sounds of industry then you need look no further than here. My only caveat would be to take a careful read through the contents first, get a listen ideally first, make sure that the sounds on offer are ones you can use.

Overall - Specialist sound effects sample CD, if these are the kinds of sounds you require then recommended without hesitation, 8/10.
