Analog to Digital
Page 2/4

So
on to the sounds, (there is no demo track taking up space). The CD kicks
off with Just Wave which is an odd little collection of wave loops
and eerie pad like sounds, the loops aren't much to write home about but
the pads are excellent.
Track 2 Acid Drops are 14 ring modulated
blips, Track 3 launches into a Kraftwerks Autobahn bass line style set
of Jupiter Loops, just 7 of them, a couple of which are very usable.
Track 4 gives over 3 minutes of Liquid
Moods, digital textures, evolving, droning, echoing "lots going
on sounds". Difficult to hide in a mix sorts of sounds, as are many
in this collection as a whole, but there are some different sounds here
if you want to get away from your typical analogue type pad sound.
Track 5, DIY Robot Kit, gives you
15 samples of would be robot sounds, suitable for inserting in Kraftwerk
style tracks as mainline sounds or more esoteric uses elsewhere.
Track 6 demonstrates what can be done with
tracks 27, 28, 51-53. These latter tracks contain raw waveforms, getting
on for the best part of 400 and track 6 demonstrates the sorts of things
you can do with them. These raw waveforms are generally very short, track
53 has 185 in just 53 seconds, so they aren't going to take much memory,
though picking the source waveform could be tricky, simply because of
the quantity your given. If your looking to create sounds from scratch
though there are a whole range here and you should certainly be able to
create something original.
Track 7, Do Not Press, 26 Sound
Tracks and 50 Microwave pan pad, are just 5 samples of layered,
complicated pad sounds that, dominate any mix that they are in, more ready
made sound bytes than samples. Interesting if not terribly usable.
Tracks 8 & 11, Mr Pad at the Movies,
are what you might imagine, gentle, evolving, complex pad sounds and chords,
the second track has slightly more powerful chords as well. Ideal for
use in ambient or soundtrack work.
Tracks 9 Ambient percussive hits
& 55 Percussive Synth, bear little resemblance to anything
actually very percussive, but have a few nice spacey sorts of echo drip
effects and metallic tones.
Track 10 Analogue Loopy Tunes &
23 Absolute Loops, have various analogue loops, half of which are
Kraftwerk type arpeggio sounding loops, the others sound like the "Random"
setting of a Roland synth and sound a bit odd, but if that's your bag...
Track 12, Land of milk and honey,
has some very nice sounds that sound distantly related to what we might
think of as Eastern sounds, not convinced, but a couple are excellent,
the second and fourth samples in particular.
Tracks 13, 14 & 50 give us some Microwave
sounds, 2 bass and 1 pad to be precise, multisampled, if your looking
for a resonant bass or wave pad sound you could do worse than these.
Track 15, Sequence Blips, has some
very harsh sounding blips designed to be used in sequenced patterns, not
very nice on the ear these ones.
Track 16, Analogue Heaven, has some
classic analogue sounds, huge sounding pads, sweeps and textures, much
simpler than some of the digital offerings, but also more usable as they
fit in a mix better.
Tracks 17-22 give us 73 samples of analogue
and digitally created drums and percussive effects. If your looking for
a slightly different sounding percussive effect then you may find it here.
Track 24, Ambient Chords, has seven
huge sounding string like chords sounds, quite excellent, sure I've heard
the 6th sample somewhere, like a Yanni track perhaps
Track 25, Random Raw Waves, is as
it says, maybe could be used as a deep underpin of a track, some are real
headache inducers.
Track 29, Analogue Boom da Bass,
has 11 bass sounds, nothing tight and punchy here mind, rather lengthy
bass drones, quite usable in the right context, could easily muddy up
a mix otherwise.
