David Ruffy - 26 samples - Two sorts of loops presented here 6 long and 10 short. I'm a fan of David Ruffy's drum loops - check out Ruff Cutz for a CD full of this sort of thing - big powerful full sounding loops, rock hard, heavily processed - though this collection is perhaps just a little more laid back than is typical of his work - in BPM if not in sound mind !. The longer loops provide some variation as they progress and this is broken out into as many as 5 variation for the CD ROM section. The shorter loops are somewhat more straightforward in sound and presentation, rather more open as well, which may make them easier to fit into a track. Just compare some of these loops to what you can produce from your soundcard or module - different planet. BPM's range from 65-160 though most are in the 80-110 category. If your looking for big sounding live drum loops then this is the place to find them - best section of the CD for me. Steve White - 10 samples - 9 loops from 91-143 BPM, most being around the 100 mark though, more fading in and out loops, unusual anyway. Big natural kits sounds with a lot of cymbal/hi-hat/ride use. More rock orientated than much of the CD that has its roots in more dance orientated genres, the only exception being Lift Off 1 & 2 - which as samples are probably usable as anything but as they are as they sound more like extracts from a complete track, complete with bass, lead and even vocal effects. Slightly odd inclusion. Neil Conti - 18 samples - We get 8 loops from 80-98 BPM with a single more upbeat one at 118 BPM. Quite light sounding loops compared to some of the others, also have a gated machine like quality to them. Each of the loops has some variation, with some fills and crossovers and presented on the CD-ROM section in 2 or 3 .wav files. Quite straightforward sounding and usable. Bonusbits - 5 samples/loops - As a bonus there are 5 uncredited loops, that are quite straightforward live drum loops, nothing too distinctive about them, though that's not always a bad thing, depends on what you want your drum track to sound like. Gleadall - 99 samples - As another bonus on the CD-ROM part there is an extra folder of samples not included on the audio portion. Here we get a whole variety of drum and percussive hits - useful if you've no other source for these. Nothing new I'm sure but a solid collection of drum sounds. The loops are straightforward live kit sounding with little in the way of additional processing and sound quite light and uncomplicated, ideal if you just want a fairly anonymous sounding drum part.
