Black II Black - 68
samples - The CD starts of with a collection of loops, rolls and percussive hits
from the acclaimed Black to Black series which now runs to 4 volumes as well
as 3 additional vocal samples CD's. The loops are broken down into Kickin Jamz,
Mid & Slow Jamz, Garage/House, Reggae and three tracks of Hip Hop "jamz"
and "flavas". BPM's range from 71-138, most being in the 90-105 range.
The loops range from straight
kit loops to heavily effected ones, though most sound quite orthodox, some have
some fill effects too, a bass effect, scratch, bell, whistle etc. Many are also
deliberately a little lo-fi, with a gritty vinyl effect. There is quite a range
covered so within any given area there are only a few loops, but a solid collection.
There are 11 rolls, rapid
staccato like drum rolls, that might be quite hard to fit into a track, probably
better as a fill effect. Then there some perfectly good snares, kicks, percussive
hits and couple of spot effects to round off the section.
Remix ! - 42
samples - If your looking for some classic remix type percussive loops then they
are here, only half a dozen or so loops, 118-130 BPM, sounding a little dated
perhaps now, but if you want that type of "perfecto" loop... There
is a scratch loop, 3 acid Roland TB-303 type loops, which are so-so. A dozen
spoken/rap/dance vocals, which sound suitably corny.
This is followed up by 20
or so synth effects and pads, some multisampled, fairly simple in structure and
tone, but quite powerful and certainly an improvement on GM that many users of
this CD will have at their disposal, the chorus pads being particularly good.
Blackbeat - 3
samples - Just a single loop, in 3 long versions, basic, with bass and then vocals.
Catchy, had me humming along.
Karma Chopra - 15
samples - Just a single track of 15 short loops, ranging from 106-167 BPM of
rapid sounding ethnic Indian percussion. Quite effective kind of bhangra beat.
Terminalhead - 27
samples - This section has eight heavily modulated effected synth sequences,
quite harsh sounding, along with another eight synth FX and a synth atmosphere,
rather of the alien, sci-fi, screeching, analogue sort. Along with these synth
sounds we get three percussive conga type loops and seven rather anonymous electric
guitar riffs.
Beatmasters - 41
samples - Track 27 gives us half a dozen longish synth samples, regular analogue
fare, nothing outstanding here. Next track has a variety of guitar, percussive
and brass samples short and sweet. A dozen loops follow, very light sounding
percussive effects, some of which would be for layering with other heavier loops.
This section rounds out with 14 short bass samples. All in all a fairly muted
section, not bad for that, but little that stands out.
