Black II Black Killer
Vocals - 62 samples
- 6 tracks of soulful vocal singing, all but 5 of the samples being from several
female singers, and the few male samples are in the same vein. If your looking
for this type of "soulful" vocal singing effect then these are fine,
as is the norm its hard to get away from rather cliché lines. "Come
with me", "Take me all the way", "Spread my love" and
"Can't do without it", usual sorts of things. Vocal samples, unless
for spot effects, are always going to be difficult to create generically.
Norman Cook - 40
samples - Yes THE Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, Beats International etc. . Though
some time before his current fame and fortune. We get 31loops from his "Skip
to my loops" collection. Ranging from 84-126 BPM, there is a fair range
and variety, though stock dance material, some are fairly rough and scratchy
vinyl like sounding, and a couple sound rather familiar, either because of the
source or the use, can't tell but recognise a couple. Whilst a little light sounding
compared to say some of the recent AMG releases there are some very usable loops
in here.
The remain samples are a
few assorted effects and some very varied vocal samples - one of which appears
on the theme tune of "Aerobics Oz Style", new I knew it from somewhere.
Coldcut - 37
samples - Starts off with a dozen (some very noisy) vocal effects, from robotic
to film type extracts. Which could find life as a spot effect somewhere. Next
we get 9 loops, from 108-126 BPM, a bit plain compared to the previous section,
but not bad. Tracks 43-44 gives us a whole range of little weird stabs, hits,
growls scratches and effects, again rather spot or "Art of Noise" type
samples.
Pascal Gabriel - 46
samples - 38 solid dance loops from this CD that dates back as far as 1991, the
veritable beginning of the Sample CD age, and the samples stand up very well.
Again not wholly dissimilar from the Norman Cook samples these too aren't quite
of the punch or power of some of the latter day loops we see but solid and usable
dance fare in the 92-137 BPM range. The section ends with a few stab and chord
like effects.
Global Trance Mission
- 36 samples -
The final collection of samples consists mainly a number of arpeggio type sample
loops from 100-127 BPM (some are rather noisy) - as the title would suggest of
the trance variety - from between Tangerine Dream and the acidic 303 squelchline
type, there are a couple of good ones in here.
The section rounds out with
half a dozen decent pad like effects.A little bit different from the rest of
the CD but a nice compliment.
