Elektravox Page 3/3
Summary - Audio quality is very good. There is very little in the way of noise or artefacts anywhere, maybe a couple of samples just end with a faint pop, but out of a 1000 that's not bad. There is a lot of serious processing of the samples throughout the collection though generally there is very little in the way of reverb. Certainly a lot of the pad sounds sound the better for the addition of some, this is quite a deliberate omission by the producers, as stated it's very easy to add reverb but nigh on impossible to remove it again from a sample. ElektraVox is certainly a unique product, can't recall having seen anything quite like it, except for a section or two on a variety of CD's, and have to say it's very much succeeded. I had kind of expected a CD of vocoded voices but really that was only just a small section, instead there is a whole range of vocal like pads, effects, loops, hits and soundscapes. Much of the collection in reality bears little resemblance to a normal vocal sample CD, instead being full of a whole range of musical elements some of which that just bear a passing resemblance to what was once human sounding, such has been the processing involved in places. In some ways parts of this collection are a throw back to the very earliest days of sampling and sound processing, the manipulation of the human voice was one of the most used effects. However this collection goes way beyond the n-n-n-nineteen effect to produce a whole sonic palette based around the human voice. Though very rarely sounding actually like it, always processed and always synthetic, very much the aim of the collection. There are some great sounds in this collection, the pads and layers are all very good, as are some of the soundscape and percussive type samples. Some of the loops and environment are perhaps a little too experimental but others may find them ideal. In many ways the CD is genreless, one of the difficulties for many musicians is to get a human element into a track and this may well be an excellent source of raw material for such people. It will appeal most for people who are looking to add a unique edge to their tracks or prepared to experiment to get an unusual sound into a loop and certainly to those who are looking to add a wealth of excellent sounds to their sonic arsenal. This CD would certainly make a worthwhile addition to many peoples sample library, probably would be one for your first purchase but if the CD appeals to you then it certainly won't disappoint. Though like me you might still be left wondering exactly what "OxMox and Toon Hooting" is ;-) Overall - Value for money 8/10 - Usability 10/10 - Documentation 9/10 - Sonic Quality 9/10. Have an unusual synthetic vocal element on your next track- 8.5/10 Click
