Minimoog Classics
Page 2/3

Percussive & Plucked Section (10) - As with most synths before the advent of using acoustic modelling or sampling the sonic descriptions and the sounds themselves often bear no resemblance at all. So descriptions like "Guitar" and "Xylophonic" are really just hints of the synthesised sounds within. If anything the Minimoog defined a "synth" sound if there is such a thing. Anyway the sounds proper kick off with 10 tracks of plucked typed sounds. Fairly straightforward tones, clangs and blips, that aren't really the Minimoogs strengths. Though the Balalaikain Repeaz, Hammondish Miniature & Pop Attax Lead are good.

Bass Section (14) - Now we're talking Minimoog !. You've heard many of these sounds before, or at least very close versions to them. Classic synth bass sounds throughout this section. Floor shaking samples if I've ever heard one. The samples are a little on the long side for bass samples, but you can always edit them if needs be. Excellent, apart from the "subbass" which is so far sub as to a bit of an intermittent burble.

Synthetic String Section (5) - Fairly straightforward pad/string type sounds, that realm into squeals rather at the highest pitches, need a little effects to bring them to life I think.

Big Synth Section (5) - As the name suggests big fat analogue synth sounds, all of which are excellent.

Brassey Section (7) - Vaguely brassey being optimistic at best as a description, but more fine synthetic Minimoog sounds.

Synthetic Woodwind (6) - More tone like sounds here, quite simple sinewave like sounds, perhaps the weakest section of the collection.

Leadsynth Section (29) - The biggest section of the collection and quite rightly so as this is where the Minimoog excels and has been a strong part of its enduring appeal. Searing, powerful analogue synth lines, one after another. Fusion Lead, Classic Fat Moog, Dirty Interval Lead, Swap Filter Lead & 3 Octave Lead and others are excellent. Some aren't quite there, but there must be dozen classic synth sounds here.

Pad & Lead Section (3) - A few sounds that once would have been described as pads but compared to later synths sound a little weak.

Synth Bass & Lead Section (4) - Even longer synthbass samples, I do like the Fat Filter Swirl sound.

Sweep Section (2) - Couple of the classic filter sweep sounds, which are fine as far as they go, though maybe a bit difficult to actually use.

Cycle Wave Section (6) - Very simple tones of the various Triangle, Saw, Square and Pulse wave forms. Not terribly interesting, but perhaps useful for use as a building block to create further sounds from.

SFX Section (19) - Here we have a variety of synth winds, surf noises, white noise, lasers, drums, and zap like noises. Interesting in the range of sounds that can be coaxed from the machine, but I wonder today how useful some of these sounds are, unless of course you want synthetic surf sounds ! But the Minimoog can make them, so there here.
