Dance/Industrial 1 Page 2/4 ../../%7Bshort%20description%20of%20image%7D

Section 1 - Loops, Tracks 1-12 comprise of 105 loops of 1 to 8 bars each, the large majority are 2 or 4 bars long, in most cases there is a BPM listed but for some fills and rhythmless loops they're not. Of the 105 samples 26 are described as "Industrial Loops", the others as "Rhythm Loops". You don't quite get 105 original loops 15 of them have variations presented too, up to 4.

BPM varies from 66 to 191, though most are in the 100-120 range.

The Industrial loops may be a bit of a disappointment if your into any kind of hard edged Industrial music. Some of them I wouldn't describe as industrial at all, and others I would describe as being rather too, well too clean and sweet sounding almost, Depeche Mode circa "Master and Servant" rings a bell. However there are some excellent loops here, I do like quite a few of them, track 4/5 "droning sound with bass drum" is my pick.

The Rhythm loops vary through a variety of styles, "Dance" is a good description. They range from house, uptempo soul, hip-hop, even funk and disco. Mainstream shall we say, if your looking for loops of a strictly defined type then you may be left feeling short changed, but if your open to some flexibility then there is some very good material here.

The loops are all very clean sounding, many are fairly open, so allow you to use them as core to a track and build up around it, without being totally overbearing. A few have a vocal element "sex moan" features a couple of times. If your looking for something mainstream then there will be something here you can use.

Section 2 - MIDI Loops - Tracks 13-48 comprise of the loops that have MIDI files on the accompanying disk - if you buy this CD make sure you get the right disk- there are two versions one PC/Atari format the other for Mac. Each of the 34 loops (some loops take up a 2 tracks) is played and then each of its constituent elements is played afterwards. The intention is that you sample the individual sounds, map them in your sampler to match up with the MIDI files, that then sounds like the original loop, which you can then manipulate to your hearts content.

This is a good way of working, change the tempo, replace a snare, create fills, very straightforward with this method of working. Its similar to working with a program like Recycle or Wave Surgeon. This CD version will invariably produce cleaner sounding individual samples but the principle is the same.

All of the loops are described as "Rhythm loops" so nothing for the industrial samplist here. The loops are similar in style to the earlier section, but because of the way they are presented the flexibility is greatly increased. If you like the groove but don't like the sounds then replace them, like the sounds but not the groove, well you get the idea.

Section 3 - Individual Sounds - The remainder of the CD is given over to a library of individual hits and sounds, and library is a good description as there are a lot of choice here around 275 samples.

We start off with 29 "Industrial Sounds", power saws, pipe hits, nail guns, drills and so forth, just right for that slightly unusual twist to a rhythm track.

Next up we have kick drums, 101 to be precise, these range from quick electronic blip kick drums to huge deep reverb soaked kicks and most points in-between. Most everyone from any genre of music will be able to make use of this section.

Then come the snare drums (with a few rim clicks thrown in), 104 of them, again a huge range of sounds as anyone could reasonably want, you get the full range, short blippy to heavy reverbed ones. Together with the descriptions that are supplied you should be able to quickly locate the sorts of sound you are looking for.

Lastly we get 70 samples of "Miscellaneous hits, sounds and effects", here we get other percussive sounds, hi-hats, cymbals, cowbells, stabs and so forth and "effects" such as slams, metallic hits, scratches, vocals etc. Maybe not quite so useful as the rest of the section as you don't get the variety of choice. Want a tom sound, three of those, cymbal, two of those, there are a dozen hi-hats though. There are some nice sounds here if you can find what your looking for, perhaps we were just spoiled by the 100 kick and snare drums.
