Loops Sequences and Sweeps. Tracks 2-16
each offer a single loop with between 2 and 8 variations. Each has a listed
BPM, which varies from 75-150. Typically a loop has a full version, then
versions with only parts of the loop, a typical example would be track 10
- Seq Set 2 - which has Full, Synth only, Bass Drum, Snare Drum and Snap
only and finally Bass Drum and Snare Drum only.
These tracks are not purely drum loops,
they include synth sounds, basses, blips and so forth typical of the genre
so they are virtually the basis for a complete track in their own right.
But by deconstructing the loops somewhat the flexibility is increased.
I would have liked to have seen this process taken a step further by having
the individual sounds broken down as well, quite probably many of the
sounds do appear elsewhere on the CD but it isn't obvious. A program like
Recycle would make short work of this if required by the user.
The loops have an excellent sonic quality
and a range of tempo's and styles (given the tight genre that they are
presented within), my only complaint is that there are not many, just
15.
Tracks 17-29 offer a variety of sequences,
arpeggios, bass loops and sweeps. Loops again have their BPM listed and
some have different versions of the same sequence. Some of these sound
a little familiar, track 22 - Octave Bass Sequence in F - sounds suspiciously
like the bass from the Kraftwerk track Autobahn, don't think it's been
lifted mind, just recreated.
Many of these sounds could be used as drop
ins, intro's, or the main theme of a track, there are some really nice
sequences , track 24 - Bass Seq - offers 4 versions of an arpeggio bass
loop. Which could appear in a variety of music styles, is my favourite
here.
Beware track 26 - Throb Sweeps - if you've
a headache, has a couple of ear piercing sweeps - aptly named !
Misc Synth Notes, Chords and FX. Tracks
30-34 offer exactly what it says, a variety of suitably synthy sounds.Track
34 is the highlight - Yahama Filter Res Chords - otherwise fairly non-descript.
These sounds again could appear in a whole variety of genres.
