Methods of Mayhem

Note - Every track has 12
samples
Analoops - 6 tracks - The CD starts
of with a collection of analogue loops that have BPM's of 120, 130 or
140. These range from blippy almost Kraftwerk like loops, to hard edged
distorted analogue loops and quite a few points in-between. About a dozen
of the loops come in two variations. Lots of distortion and lots of movement
within many of the loops, maintaining interest through their 2 or 4 bars.
Though even the most distorted sounds still manage to just stay within
listenable sonic ranges, no total ear splitting screeches here. Very solid
collection here that could form an underpin of many tracks..
Locoder - 5
tracks - As you can guess from the title this loop collection of beats
from 100-160 BPM has been effected using a Vocoder to produce some more
unusual sounding loops. There are 43 loops, with some having up to 4 variations
presented. The loops are generally quite open, with varying percussive
and short synth effects, all with that classic Vocoder effected sound.
Drumb Beats - 8
tracks - 75 loops that range in BPM from 100-170, most loops just have
a single variation, though a dozen or so have 2 or 3 variations supplied.
You get a whole range of styles and effects in here, within the genres
that the CD is targeted at, with a variety of fill effects that take these
loops away from your normal, kick, snare and hi-hat variety dance loops.
Excellent sounding, if your looking for something just a little away from
the ordinary then you'll find something here.
Ugly Loops - 3
tracks - As the name suggests nasty, distorted, noisy and hard edged sounding
loops, that have a BPM of 100-160 and as in previous sections some loops
have up to 4 variations. Despite being heavily effected and deliberately
sounding dirty these loops still retain their listenability, avoiding
the realms of screech that some sample offerings wander off into.
Atonalogue - 3
tracks - Synth arpeggio's type loops, mostly heavily effected, and as
the name suggests pretty toneless. That isn't a bad comment, just the
way they sound. Range in BPM from 100-150 with up to 5 variations. Whilst
there are some good ones in here, there are some "I wonder how I
could use these" type samples. Interesting nonetheless though.
Treated Guitars - 4
tracks - Heavily distorted and effected guitars, a few of which sound
so unlike guitars that by ear alone you'd never be able to tell. Many
of the sounds are gated and filtered or played in that stuttering type
fashion, and sound suitably deep and hard edged, not much subtle guitar
technique here. Quite excellent sounding.
Grind Control - 4
tracks - Again heavily distorted guitars, though with less processing
than the previous section to give a more usual guitar sounds and effects.
Once again not your normal sample material and quite excellent sounding.
Ideal for adding an edge to a track if you have no ready made guitar player
in your setup.
