The third section is Zone Instruments
that starts off with Bass Loops, three tracks of electric bass
sounds, that vary from dark throbbing type bass, to higher pitched funk
bass type like effects. BPM's are from 70-110. Some of the sounds are
recorded live as you get some of the ambient effects, like fingers being
moved down the neck. There are a number of loops here that have very noticeable
cross talk like effects, as if sounds have leaked from the next track
of a multitrack, quiet percussion for example. Not the easiest of things
to get rid of if it is noticeable in your track.
Bass Licks is really a continuation
of the previous section, two tracks of riffs rather than straight loops,
but very much sounding the same.
Bass FX, would probably be better
described as Synth & Bass FX, as there are some in there that bear
little resemblance to anything bass like. We have a few assorted bass
guitar effects, some excellent, synth pad echo like effects and a some
grunge, distorted like bass doodles and chords.
Moving along we have three tracks of Guitar
Loops, from 80-130, mainly very light sounding, quite high pitched
electric guitar strumming type effects and few "Peter Gunn"
like lower pitched loops, not forgetting a single acoustic guitar of course.
No power chords or would be axe ace killer solos. Very reserved. Guitar
Licks is more of the same, shorter and not looped, perhaps there are
one or two more aggressive effects in there.
Next up there is three tracks of Clavinet
Licks and FX, mostly quite short, quite interesting, though I'd kind
of be stuck to think of a use for them to be honest, aside from a drop
in effect perhaps.
We're then treated to 3 tracks of Organ
licks that sound totally cheesy as they should, many sound right like
they've been lifted out of the Ice Ring or Baseball game. You know the
sort of effects they play to build a bit of atmosphere, fire the organist
and use this instead. Could be used as drop in's very easily if you want
this effect.
Synth licks, sound rather like the
sacked organist trying it out on a synth, same kind of thing as the previous
sound but with a higher pitched, electric piano/string effect.
Track 51 flute licks, is a bit of
a lie, as a couple of them sound so unlike flutes as to be a breach of
the trades descriptions acts, I can only presume there is some serious
sound processing at work. The sounds divide up into a real good little
arpeggio, some deep drone voice like drones and more orthodox, more effected
flute like riffs. Interesting.
World licks kind of go with the earlier
world section, except for the percussive effects you get a suitable array
of horn, guitar, string and woodwind like sounds. Many of which are excellent
for dropping into tracks needing a bit of world sound added to them, so
we get the sitar like effects, Arabic horn like sounds and of course the
obligatory digeridoo riff.
The final section of the CD is the Zone
Sound section which starts of with 5 tracks of Kaos FX - 60 samples
of weirdness, off beat chords, industrial noise, blurps, industrial like
machines, screaming type effects, steam like noise, vocal effects, little
weird rhythms, rumbles, stabs etc. you get the idea. If your looking for
an offbeat effect you may well find what you are looking for here. There
some very good and different effects here, though some you would have
to struggle to find a use for I think.
Tracks 60 has a dozen assorted scratch
and tape effects, like a tape sounds getting mangled in the machine
and going weird, which leads on to Tape FX and Tape Start
FX, which are short samples with a variety of percussive and tones, distorted
either synthetically or actually by tapes starting and stopping, sounding
like bleeeeuuuurrrr, or its reverse if you can imagine that !, but with
different sounds. Interesting.
The CD rounds out with 8 tracks of percussive
hits, Dub Hits, Kiks, Snares & Percussive, no doubt mostly
extracted from the earlier loops (or vice versa), there are some more
unusual sounds here, the world percussion instruments are here and the
dub ones are very good also. As you'd expect from the contents of the
rest of the CD there is some assorted weirder ones thrown in for good
measure.
There is no test tone.
