George Clinton - Soundisc Series Page
2/4

On to the sounds.... most of the samples
are loops of some fashion and everything is in alphabetical order so the
audio and data versions match.
Bass - 8 samples - Small selection
of funk bass riffs, very good, but could have done with a few more as
there isn't a great deal of variety here.
Drum Loops - 26 samples broken down
into 7 sub sections - Clappy, FX, Heavy, Party Time, Smooth Grooves, Straight,
Tuplet. As you'll imagine the first, Clappy, feature prominent
clap sounds, FX have some slightly different fill effects. Heavy,
relative to the other sounds are the ones with the most weight, but compared
to most heavy dance loops they're very tame. Party time is just
a single upbeat sounding loop. Smooth grooves are a little slower
in BPM, though as its not listed its hard to be exact. Straight,
are quite plain sounding loops, bass, kick, cymbal and hi-hat, better
for layering than some of the sounds as they sound more open. Tuplet,
again as you might imagine features a straight slap back delay type drum
loop, sure its not created that way but the best way I can think of describing
the sound.
Overall I have to say quite a mild selection,
most of the loops are quite short and there is little evolution, so in
Mixman they can sound quite repetitive after a while. But bearing in mind
the market they're aiming for not bad at all.
FX - just a single Synth Bomb sample
- an analogue sounding warble.
Guitars - 8 samples of quite high
pitched strumming and picking type loops, with one heavy metal type power
chord thrown in for good measure. Rather like the bass sounds these are
fine, but there isn't a great deal of variety.
Horns - 44 samples broken down into
Lines and Stabs Up, Down, Grab Bag, Short and Sustained - Lines
starts off with 16 complete loops, and very good they are too, instantly
adding a brass section to a track, some of the loops you get two variations
so you can swap them about to add some interest. The Stabs are
exactly that, short drop in effects as the names suggest either bending
up or down, short and sustained, while the grab bag has a track
ending drum roll as well.
