Freak Beats Page 3/4
As with any loops collection its impossible to describe them all, be rather boring to write and read !, but will take a selection that will hopefully give you a feel. Scrapeaway - 80 BPM - Nice big sounds, big thumping bass drum with a sort of tinny snare sound, reversed cymbal and a scraping noise fill out the loop. Nice catchy rhythm with a sort of swing feel. Effective. Fat Boys - 85 BPM - Quite a simple loop driving gated bass and snare hit with a light synth type scratchy noise over the top. The big drum sound would standout in a track though the laying might get a bit lost in a busier mix. Like this one, simple and effective very usable. Tronix Noise - 90 BPM - Light open loop using gated type percussive effects to produce a sort of very artificial sounding loop, like a slight hard edged Kraftwerk like loop. Sounds as if it's just about to get going when it ends, but with some editing could be very effective. Solid State - 95 BPM - Busy sounding, with a rapid wet distorted bass drum, with a powerful gated snare sound pumping the loop along, with a sort of junk percussion tom effect adding a fill back in the mix with a couple of electronic scratch blips. Thunderball - 95 BPM - Gritty vinyl type loop, with quite a distinct vinyl noise (deliberate I presume), quite a straightforward drum pattern mixed with a deep droning sort of muffled aquatic slow drip sound, with an even deeper rumble type effect. Could be used as a backdrop for a broody dark track, perhaps with a few spooky type noises to add to the nature already there. Remain Calm - 100 BPM - Fairly light sounding with a repeating muffled and distorted bass da-na, da-na-da-na effect, distorted snare and sharper snare alternate with a muffled sort of conga counterpoint. Would be good for a low profile sort of driving beat track, layering well with some powerful synth appegio's perhaps. Respirator - 105 BPM - Clean sounding light loop, quite busy with a crunchy bass sound alternating with a gated clap sound, layered over the top is a lightish sounding tom type effect and sort of bell/ring effect. Fairly straightforward loop that wouldn't dominate a mix, would make for a fairly happy sounding track. Bump and Grind - 105 BPM - Big sounding kick and double bass drum effect. Nicely effected to produce a powerful but still open sounding loop that could be used to under pin a track, layered with additional driving type sounds, or possible left quite bare with just some fill effects added to add to compliement the openness of the loop. The CD ends up with 50 samples of scratch sounds, encompassing both straightforward scratch noises to some very good little chopped up scratch "arpeggio's", the are some backwards ones too to add some variation too.
