K-Class - Soundisc Series Page
2/4

On to the sounds.... most of the samples
are loops of some fashion and everything is in alphabetical order so the
audio and data versions match.
Bass - 22 samples - there are a whole
range of bass sounds on offer here, from deep bass tones, to quite funky
bass riffs, not a duff one amongst them. The last "Waiting Bass"
is my pick, though may be too high pitched for everyone's taste. The loops
are mostly of the 8 bar variety and unlike some of the other sections
a number of the loops aren't straight repeats but have a 2 or 4 bar pattern
to them. Probably the sample use will get a greater benefit from these
loops as whilst there is a great selection of bass sounds here, the Mixman
user just gets the loop on offer, while if your using a sample you can
cut up the loop to get the sounds and use them in your own riffs.
Claps - 11 samples - a variety of
clap like sounds, though some don't bear too much resemblance to two hands
hitting each other, like much of the CD there are quite some effects applied.
Compared to much of the CD there isn't much in the way of inspired programming
here, the riffs being pretty simple, and without much movement. Though
for this type of sound, designed to be layered with other percussion effects
that's not much of an issue.
Cymbals - 7 samples - The samples
are all fairly light and muted, probably aided by a lot of compression,
that fit in with the type of music the collection is designed for. Quite
usable sounds, though a couple of the repetitive riffs aren't quite in
keeping with the genre.
Drum Loops - 32 samples - these are
further divided into four sub groups, Conga, Four on the Floor, Grab Bag
and Top Loops. The first group have a suitably funky conga riff through
them, very catchy. The four on the floor collection, as you would expect
from the name are the dance floor fillers, a number of which also include
fill effects, subtle bass or synth notes, or odd scratches, noises etc.
Grab bag is what is says, 4 loops that don't quite fit in the other categories,
and top loops are lighter sounding loops that are designed to be layered
with other percussion effects (if you want) to make heavier sounding loops.
These really are a decent collection of
loops, tight and catchy, the four on the floor ones are the best of the
loops on offer. Perhaps my only criticism is that some of the loops lack
serious punch, perhaps needing a bit of EQ to my ears. But then K-Klass
have sold more records than me !
Guitars - 3 samples - Perhaps these
once were guitar sounds !, not too much hear, a very short effected riff,
an arpeggio like riff and a (unusually noisy) effected strum riff. If
your looking for a regular guitar sound these aren't for you.
Hats - 13 samples - Like much of
the CD you get quite a variety of sounds here, not just a sound or two
played in a variety of loops. Snappy hats sounds, gated and compressed
mainly I'd say, apart from the couple of "ride" like had sounds.
Very good and ideal for layering with the other loops here.
