Big Beat Page 1/3
Big Beat is the first sample CD we've looked at from German sample CD company Ueberschall, who have quite a comprehensive catalogue already. Big Beat is described as "The new Big Beat-Sampling CD from ueberschall ... it really kicks ass !!! The ultimate professional power tool, dynamite for sampling. 77 minutes of authentic big beat stuff: blasting drumloops, fx atmospheres , radio & vinyl-cuts, vocal madness, horns, axes, heavy basses, analogue.machines, bitchin’ sounds and keys. "Big Beat" contains tons of hypnotic Trippin'-Loops that give tracks the final grind. Hundreds of killer fatboy drumloops. It's like a shot in the head." Exactly! What we have is a construction kit type format CD, a healthy sized loops section with a whole range of other sections to back it up, basses, vocals, synths, piano's and so forth, targeted to give you most of the material you'd need to produce a track. The CD is a straight audio only CD at a regular full sample CD price. There is very little about the producers beyond being produced by Ueberschall and a list of the performers for the live instruments. Though one particularly interesting credit is listed for "Waveform dehypnotizement" wonder what that actually means !
The documentation is good each track is listed out, with a descriptive title for the tracks contents, a BPM if appropriate and the number of samples. There isn't an individual listing of samples, but they are grouped into sensible categories, so that finding the sample your looking for shouldn't be too difficult. There isn't too much extra in the way of information, a few paragraphs of notes, some adverts and the method for changing loop tempos. Additionally the contents are summarised on the insides of the transparent CD case. The licence agreement is fairly standard with no untoward requirements on the end user. There are no less than three demo tracks, a two minute one for Big Beat, sounds quite disjointed, but as an actual demo for the CD is pretty good. Additionally there are two sub two minute demo's for a couple of other Ueberschall products. It does eat into the overall time a little but it still leaves well over 70 minutes of actual samples for you to use. There is no test tone.
