Waveplant Synthesiser Page
2/3

Firstly its as well to point
out that the sounds produced by this synthesiser are true synthesiser sounds
and sound that way, totally synthetic, and impossible, in the main anyway, able
to be produced by traditional acoustic instruments. There is little here that
could ever be described as "realistic".
Textures - 20 samples
- Long synthetic sounds, up to 30 seconds in length, which have a powerful analogue
type sound to them. Modulation is much in evidence in some of the samples, as
is a ring modulation resonant type sound, which is characteristic of the sound
in general that the Waveplant produces, together with some filter sweeps make
for an interesting range of synth sounds. Multioctorgfilt is my favourite - huge
sounding chord type sample that has a metallic edge to the movement, excellent.
Bass - 35 samples
- Not your ususal synth bass sounds here, more bass tones I'd describe them as.
Two sorts really, those with resonance and those without, and up to 4 versions
of each sample. There are a few percussive sounds as well. A little disappointing,
not having the power or variation of some of the other sections. The sounds being
fairly plain and uninspiring, although having said that compared to many of the
samples here they would be easier to blend into a mix. The percussive sounds
are so-so, too few to provide variety, and if analogue drum sounds are what your
looking for there are other libraries with a lot more choice.
Organs - 20 samples
- The "organ" sounds are kind of mid way tone samples between the bass
sounds and polysynth type sounds and continue the characteristic tone of the
collection. Somewhat more powerful sounding than the bass sounds, quite simple
in structure, with little overt modulation or filter effects. The C5organ (think
"Chariots of Fire") and Monoresorg are fine examples of synth sounds
as ever there is.
Polysynth - 22 samples
- These samples are a little more complex than some of the bass/organ type sounds
have some more modulation/filter effects applied and a little further up the
tone scale. Again powerful synthetic sounds with the characteristic Waveplant
sound. Ideal for bashing out some power chords - synth style.
Otherworld - 11 samples
- Slightly more "alien" sounding samples with a metallic overtones
to provide a bit of variation, quite spacey sounding, with lots of movement and
variation in the samples. Ideal for space music or science fiction score writers.
Weird & FX -
13 samples - Mostly synthetic bell and ring modulation effects, with a Waveplant
sound, interesting though probably quite difficult to use in practice.
Lead - 13 samples
- Samples pitched between Textures and Polysynth in sound and complexity, powerful
sounds more suited to lead lines, again with the characteristic sound of the
whole collection, analogue sounding and powerful, with a resonant, ring modulation,
metallic kind of edge to most of the sounds.
Filter - 13 samples
- Complex sounds that have heavy filter and modulation effects applied to them
to produce classic analogue type synth effects. Though all but the most complex
of synthesisers would struggle to produce anything as complex or powerful as
these samples. Interesting sounds, though as with the Weird & FX examples
I would imagine quite difficult to use in a musical context.
