Summary. Audio quality throughout is excellent, I didn't notice noise or recording defects anywhere. The audio section doesn't follow the order of the inlay card and there are some quite long silences between the samples, but this doesn't affect anything.

This is quite a difficult review to summarise, on the one hand you have a very well crafted set of unique sounds, well put together, in three versions with variations. But to balance this there is the fact that many of the sounds have a "sameness" to them and add this to the fact that the actual number of different sounds is fairly Iimited. I'd count around a 100 different samples, ignoring the effected variations. I usually balance a sample CD value wise as around one UKP per minute of samples, so a full price sample CD should contain at least 60 minutes of samples and a budget priced sample CD such as this you should get around 20 minutes of samples for 20 UKP. On this scale the CD is either a little overpriced or a little short quantity wise.

People who will get most from this CD are those that are looking for powerful, synthetic, analogue like "lead" type sounds. This is certainly the strength of the Waveplant, dense walls of sound, either as stab type effects or searing lead lines. The CD does have some sounds to die for, but once your past those the use that anyone might get from the CD could be quite limited.

This CD won't appeal to a wide audience and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who didn't know specifically what is offered here. It's not a genre or library CD in the usual sense. There are some Real Audio demo's on the Waveplant site and I'd suggest potential buyers check these out first. However if your in the market for some unique powerful synth sounds then you could find what your looking for here.
