Wizoo Powered Nord
Page 2/3

The collection is broken down into 8 categories of typical your synth sounds - Waveform, Bass, Additive, Lead, Poly, Pad, Arpeggio and Synthbrass.

Throughout the collection each main sample is presented as a separate volume, the main program is 01, and then variations are given as separate programs, usually an extra 2 or 3. The variations, apart from being useful in their own right also demonstrate to the user how the original sound can be manipulated within the sampler to produce subtle or quite radically different sounds.

The alterations that have been programmed are mainly in the alterations of envelopes, but also include such things as the adding of resonance or a portamento effect.

Additive - 6 Volumes - These sounds are designed to be combined with others to beef them up or add some interest. As such as you'd expect the sounds are fairly simple in structure, nice clean analogue tones, noise and a wood block kind of tone. In isolation one would have to say they are nothing exciting but be ideal to forfill their intended use as adding body to another sound.

Arpeggio - 2 Volumes - Just a couple of simple samples, again fairly straightforward typically analogue sounds, and ideal for their purpose. Rather a pity there aren't more examples of this type as I'm sure that the Nord would be an ideal source for such sounds.

Bass - 9 Volumes - A really nice collection of deep, powerful, punchy analogue bass sounds, the Nord excels at these types of sounds and these certainly don't disappoint.

Lead - 5 Volumes - Good solid little collection of analogue lead sounds, nothing too outstanding, quite simple sounding in structure, though really like the Multimoog sample.

Pad - 3 Volumes - Slightly softer sounding samples, enriched considerably with a healthy dose of reverb, not bad at all, though as with any budget/mid range priced type release there is often the refrain of "I wish there was more !"

Poly - 12 Volumes - Listening to some of these samples you can see why there has been such a demand for "analogue" sounds over the past few years. Some stunning examples here of rich, powerful and yet quite simple "Analogue Polyphonic" sounds. Moogly, Nasty & Peewempet are probably my picks as the best of the collection as a whole in a very strong section.

Synthbrass - 1 Volume - As with most "brass" sounds on an analogue synthesiser this one only has the most tenuous link to anything remotely brass sounding, not too bad.

Waveforms - 4 Volumes - Here we have basic waveform samples, pulse, saw and square, designed to give the user the opportunity to manipulate them in the sampler to produce sounds from just the basic building blocks. As you would expect very straightforward tone like samples.

Note: On partition E of the collection the basic programs are repeated in a block so you can audition a whole category of sounds in one go (if you have the memory in your sampler), and on the F partition there are half a dozen examples of sounds being combined to produce more variations.
